Artificial or augmented intelligence?

There has been near hysteria around AI and whether its rise will spell the end of society as we know it let alone our jobs being lost to machines. The headlines might be grabbing our attention and scaring us all, but the reality is that AI is still a long way from displacing our jobs. This is not the industrial revolution where literally 95% of jobs were displaced in the mills by the automated weaving machines and steam engine power. But there will be job displacement but rather gradually.

We should start to think of AI more as a way of augmenting our intelligence than a replacement for our intelligence. And we should start to think of AI as a way of helping us being more productive and fulfilling in our work. The calculator, spreadsheets, the internet has all been a boom for knowledge workers...
